At tonight's meeting we held a workshop with local watercolourist Gerd Gerhard. Gerd paints his subjects fairly realistically, using a varied palette to suit the subject and the mood he wishes to depict. Amongst his favourite subjects are Landscapes from Coasts to Mountains, Woodland through all Seasons, and Buildings with History and Character.
For the workshop Gerd had selected a woodland scene. Starting from the sketch he provided we followed him through the painting, using masking fluid first to pick out the highlights, building up the scene and finally lifting out the shafts of light shining through the foliage.
Many thanks to Gerd for an enjoyable evening and for all the help and advice he gave throughout the session.
