Pat GaskellMy name is Pat Gaskell and I was born in Winterton, North Lincolnshire. I have always painted and it was my favourite subject at school. My teacher sent me off to Doncaster Art College when I was fourteen years old to have a look around and talk about what went on there but it was going to be difficult getting there and would have needed two bus rides and a train ride to get there making it a costly exercise. Apart from that my Dad observed that one of the classes was painting a nude and decided it was not for his daughter!
When we moved to Macclesfield I joined a group in Prestbury with Bert Knight and learned everything I know. He was fantastic. That was in oils. I have moved on to watercolours now and paint mainly scenes from Italy where we love to go every year somewhere different. I like to use lots of colour and my paintings are always with sunshine and blue skies. I have a small painting kit which Alwyn Crawshaw brought out and do little paintings on holiday and then photograph the scene so that I can work on it when I get home. My favourite artist is Alvaro Castagnet. |
